Portsmouth FC are working with Portsmouth PCT NHS, Wessex Cancer Trust and the Football Foundation to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of cancer in men over 55. The project concentrates on the three most common cancers in men; prostate, lung and bowel cancer. Prostate cancer is the most common male cancer and is strongly linked to men over 65. Lung cancer is the second most common cancer in the UK, each year more than 38,000 people are diagnosed with lung cancer. Smoking is a major risk factor for developing lung cancer although a small number of non-smokers get lung cancer. Around 1 in 20 people will develop bowel cancer, the third most common cancer and the second most common cause of cancer deaths.
